How To Become a Seller with Walmart

Are you a business owner that is looking to make it big at our nation’s biggest retailer? Unfortunately, you can’t just walk into a store and stock their shelves with your product, but it is a fairly simple process!

Why Walmart Marketplace?

Walmart Marketplace is an e-commerce community of sellers that provide high-quality assortments to the consumers of the world.

Walmart Marketplace has approximately 120 million monthly visitors and around 50,000 sellers, compared to Amazon with 300 million customers worldwide and 8 million active sellers. While Amazon has a bigger audience, you may get lost in the millions of sellers on their platform, whereas with Walmart, the amount of sellers is narrower.

Some extra perks that come from selling with Walmart are:

• No setup, monthly, or hidden fees. Commission rates vary but range from 6% to 15%.
• No inventory limitations. You can list your inventory catalog in its entirety on Marketplace.
• Walmart Fulfillment Services can handle your inventory and send t straight to the customer for you (for a small fee).

First Steps

Before you can start selling on Walmart Marketplace, you must first register to be a seller. The first step is to submit an application with Walmart.

They will require that you provide:

• A W9 or W8 and an EIN verification letter from the Department of Treasury
• A US business tax ID
• An address of physical operations
• US Business address
• Your planned integration method
• UPC info and SKUs info

Once all of this information has been submitted in their system and approved by Walmart, your onboarding process will begin!

The Onboarding Process

Your onboarding setup is crucial when it comes to your business’s policies and customer service information. Along the top of the Walmart Seller Center website are tabs that need to be filled out.

These tabs feature your:

• Company Information
• Customer Service Policy
• Contact Management for shipping, fulfillment, etcetera
• Shipping Preferences
• Return Policies
• Privacy Policies

After all of this information is completed, someone within Walmart will contact you to ensure all of the information they received from you is correct. They will also send you an email stating that your account has been activated.

Helpful Notes

When it comes to shipping with Walmart, you are required to provide a free shipping option. However, if you are able to shorten your shipping times, you can provide expedited shipping for a fee.

New sellers will experience a 14 day waiting period on new sellers for the first 90 days as a seller (and for the first $5,000 in sales). For example, if you began selling January 4, 2020 and ship 20 orders between the 4^th and the 17^th, you will get paid for those sales January 21, 2020.
